WHO WE ARE ?

Governors Special Representative, PP VV George invited a group of 24 members as charter members of the second Rotary club in Cochin. The club after meeting for almost six months got the charter No.15839 on 15thNovember 1969. Few members of the Rotary club of Cochin formed the nucleus of the club with Charter President Rtn Chidambaram, Charter Secretary Rtn V.V Job, Vice President Rtn Shamdas Bulchand, Directors Rtn Indusekhar & Rtn R.V. Joshi being members from RC Cochin along with Rtn Capt. Abraham Kuruvilla, Rtn M.H Kamath, Rtn Srinivas Gupta and Rtn Basudeo Bhalotia both former dealers in Raw Rubber and few youngsters like Rtn Praveen Shah, Rtn C.A Abraham and Rtn K. C. Philip all below 25 years at that time as members. There were few like Aravind Saraf of Saraf Trading who did not continue.

The charter presentation  was in February 1970 in a colourful function on the lawns of Casino by the then Rotary 320 District Governor Rtn Rajasabhai from Madurai as the entire South India and Sri Lanka were parts of District 320 at that time. Rtn Dominic Joseph, owner of Casino hotel joined the club at the charter ceremony. District 320 was the larger district comprising of Madrasand Salem at that time after Sri Lanka and Madurai area separated as district 321 in 1970.Governors like industrialist MV Arunachalam, Engineer CV George, Principal SR Govindarajan, an educationist and Dr CRR Pillai,an eminent Cardiologist who were all from different clubs in Madras. PDG Venugopl C Govind was the District Governor in 1979-80. Eminent businessman Past President Hassankoya and lawyer Joseph Jacob were in ROTARY fraternity who hails from Calicut.
